Question:
I've posted this before, but I'm at the end of my rope and need more answers...
1999 Grand Am, 2.4 Liter auto, 160,000 miles. Car stalls out when idling or coasting at low speeds, and also if I have to take my foot off the gas and then reapply pressure, it hesitates and I have to push the pedal down almost completely to get it going again or else it will stall. I have cleaned off the IAC valve with carb cleaner and had the car tested for codes at autozone and was fine. It does not sputter like it's a fuel filter issue. It seems more apt to start acting up after it reaches normal operating tempature. If anyone has had this issue and solved it PLEASE tell me. I have read many posts here but no one ever bothers to post how they got the issue fixed afterwards. I don't have the money to take it to a shop. PLEASE HELP ME!
Answers:
I think the key here is to look at what is not working when it is in warm up mode. The fuel system isn't part of the warm up mode, or is the injectors, and the IAC, so you can rule these out. Look at what comes into play when it does hit the 100 degrees. This kind of narrows it down to the mass air flow meter/sensor, the EGR valve, the O-2 sensor, and the engine timing. At least you have a more narrow area to look at. As a long shot, it could be a bad temperature sensor, making the computer think the engine is not up to temperature, but like I said that is a long shot.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!
