The 95 Cabrio is the first year they offered the 2.0l engine, which is very reliable. The reason I got the car so cheap was due to the person who owned it didn't know how to fix the reason it wasn't running properly. I spent $500 and the car was running perfect.

The car is very trustworthy MECHANICALLY as long as you change the oil regularly, rotate the tires, and keep the fluids filled. Although they get up and go quickly, they are not race cars! Tearing off from a dead stop on a regular basis will cause problems in the future.

I took it out one day and had it up to 90 mph, but it was too windy to go faster with the top down. I rode with my daughter one day, fell asleep, and when I woke up she was doing 110 (with the top up)! I told her to slow down and when I realized how far we had travelled, she was going that speed for about 50 minutes!

The thing about the Cabrio is the leather seats are prone ripping and tearing. Also, little items break, such as the interior door panel came off one day when her friend closed the door! I had to take it off and use some special glue and bushings to get it to stay on. After time, anything plastic in the car becomes brittle and subject to breaking. But that also happens with the Beetle.
I would just enjoy the car! You will get looks! They are fun and you can actually seat 4 people in it.

You are probably talking about the Golf Cabrio, 1995. It is a nice car, less funky than the Beetle but as reliable. Fuel economy is roughly the same since the Golf and the Beetle share the engines and the technical base.
