An answer and a quickie to Alex.I own a 2006 VW Jetta GLI with 16k miles...Should I buy a VW Jetta TDI instead?
Manual is the way to go. Automatics are only serviced by stygian witches hidden in the back of the dealerships. MT is just so much better as a reliability and maintainability thing
To drive fast the brakes in a MT will experience the same wear as an automatic. Driving slow uses compression braking and moving the gears down incrementally and might relieve some brake wear. But to go fast you hammer the brakes at the last possible moment before the turn then select the appropriate gear for setting your exit.
