If I was there it would be easy to find out what the problem was. you did not state if this was a 1997 or a 1997.5 year. that way i would know if it's a 12 or 24 valve. Sounds more like a low power problem with the engine related to lift pump pressure, If this is a 24 valve engine with the vp44 fuel pump you need to have the problem looked at today--- low lift pump pressure in this engine can cause the fuel pump to be damaged and raise the cost of repair almost $1800.
