1996 Ford Escort?

Question:
I have a 1996 Ford Escort and when I travel down any road it sounds like there is an 'eek eek' noise comming from the speedometer. Any suggestions on what it is and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance

The noise is the speedometer cable worn out. To fix it, is to replace it.

Believe it or not..?

Speedometer head or cable is worn.

Where is the computer module on a 2004 Ford Explorer?

this fix is insanely simple. Take the speedometer out and apply grease to the place on the speedometer head where the cable clips on. The issue is that the factory forgot to grease this part properly on 94 through 96 models and the needle would skip all around. This means a $500 payday for the Ford dealer. Replacing the cable will not solve the problem and may create new ones. One further tip. be careful of the spring that holds the cable in the transmission. These need to be removed to get the speedo out and are a bear to get back in. But they have to or nothing will work. Hope this helps.
