can i drop a distributor from a 77-81(coil wires only) small block into this 305(coil wires and ecm wires) and bypass the rest of the B*** S***(ecm wires). I don't live in an emission control city and want to get back to the simplicity of the HEI ignition, to get rid of any extra crap.

If you've got throttle body injection, dont even think about using the older HEI. The computer controls the fuel delivery and spark advance on that setup. The factory distributor likely doesn't have an advance system, its done in the computer. The older HEI uses the mechanical advance based on distributor shaft RPM. The computer will be trying to meter fuel and adjust timing, and the older distributor won't respond to the commands. The result is the truck runs poorly, if at all.

You can do the full swap if TBI- use a carb intake, a carb, and the older HEI. You'll need a fuel pressure regulator or a mechanical fuel pump.

Yes it will work or you can also unplug the ecm plug and wire 2 of the wires together and it will allso run fine but I dont remember which 2 wires to hook together.Dodge ram Truck 2500 4 door reliable or not?
