maybe the seal that is on the filter was stuck on there when your older filter was replaced. if it is that then you have to get a new filter and take the seal of before you put on the new one. What is the radio code for my 1993 Mazda Protege?
could be the oil filter housing seal or gasket.check the oil filter rubber o ring seal if the filter has been changed recently it may not be square on oil filterIf it's leaking here then it's because the filter isn't sealed correctly. Gives a few choices - maybe the filter isn't screwed on tight enough, the old O-ring wasn't removed before the new one was fitted, they can be a bugger to remove. The new O-ring wasn't located properly, there is a groove that the O-ring must fit into and sometimes it can be difficult to seat it correctly especially when tightening the filter. Filter has been overtightened - only hand tight and it needs a fairly gentle touch, not an Arnie as tight as you can and certainly no use of rope, filter tools etc. Or worst case a cracked filter housing, needs a new one or judicial use of araldite. Also check whether it was an original filter fitted because pattern parts can be dodgy and it could be the filter itself leaking, hope this helps.
You need to replace the oil filter base o-ring. You should replace it when you do your next oil change shouldn't cost you much more labor and the part is about 2 bucks.
