Grand cherokee gearbox problem??

Question:
Reference my last question, my jeep is a 97 4.0ltr with quadra-trac, it will only drive in 4x4 mode, either hi or low, when olaced in the 'N' on the 4x4 shift stick the car is immobile, will not move or attempt to move, it revs as though no gear has been selected even though the auto box is selected in drive.
I originally thought it was gearbox problem, then, after reading previous answers was pointed toward transfer case, whatever that is, one answer stated this model was permenant 4x4 and does not have two wheel drive as an option.....
Any help would be most appreciated,

New engine(2.2ltr)in safari and a new pick up jeep was launched in europe, when will it come in india?

Quadra-Trac is full time 4WD there isn't a 2WD mode available. If you place the transfer case in Neutral it disconnects all transmission power from both front and rear axles. This position is used for towing the vehicle with all 4 wheels on the ground.

Please,if somebodu own crysler pt,tell me more...thanks?

You made a mistake by buying a Jeep in the first place, it is a yank piece of crap.

My 2004 Jetta indicator light came on and i don't have the manual. The symbol is of a car with a screw.?

yes, you'll find that it is a permanent 4x4 [checked on Jeep's website], meaning you cannot select 2wd etc.

What is the biggest size wheels I can put on a 2006 dodge dakota 4wd quad cab without a lift kit?

now from what i gather from the question - that the engine revs but no drive even tho the gearstick is in 'D' while the low/high stick is in 'N' - right? well the problem is obvious really,
the transfer box is basically an extra gearbox bolted on the existing one, which changes from low to high - (low gears for rough terrain, high for road use) the power from the engine goes thru the auto gearbox first then via the tranferbox spliting it to both axles. so by selecting N here ahs the same effect as selecting on the auto gearstick, i.e. you have disenaged 'drive' somewhere along the line.

like Bill S said, N on the transfer box is used if the vehicle was being towed

Whats Faster, 2007 Corvette vs 2007 Shelby GT 500?

Easy , the "N" on the transfer box selector is the same as the "N" on the normal transmission selector. They both are neutral positions. The transfer one enables the vehicle to be towed without causing damage to the auto box. If all else fails...read the manual !
