That knocking is from when the engine overheated. The oil got so thin the piston in a cylinder did not slide(stopped in its tracks) the momentum of the engine and the other cylinders put excessive force on the connecting rod(which connects the piston to the crankshaft) and bent it. Now it is not straight as it goes up and down in the cylinder.it hits the walls of the cylinder. Like a hammer hitting inside a can. It is causing damage. It has to go in to be fixed, otherwise it will bash a hole thru the block and you will have one big paperweight of a motor.
