I realize that U.K. & U.S. vehicles (& warranties) are different, however they are ALL complicated pieces of machinery & you should consult with the manufacturer before attempting to 'do it yourself'. You might find that you are spending money for parts or services that the manufacturer may have provided to you at no charge.

remove the cover.. should be 2 bolts or so (look in the back for a few bolts, but apparently you must have gotten something out of the way )and the removal of those tubes from it (apparently a beauty cover or air box) and pull up on it.. should have coil on plug and removal of the 7mm screw is neccessary as well as the connector to pull up...

basically unless it's misfiring or has 100k miles (160k km) I wouldn't worry about a spark plug just yet.. things can go many miles before needing plugs (I haven't changed a plug on one yet)

Edit- Usually Ford has a few bolts around the outside of the cover to keep it in place..apparently it's a baffle for the air cleaner of some sort.. the tubes after unscrewing the hose clamps should get in the side...

If that doesn't work, try taking the big air baffle thing off the top of your engine. I think on this car you'll need a long extension and spark plug socket to get to them. Check your service manual, you should only have to change them every 120,000 miles or so.

Well i don't know how many miles or km are on the car but I can't see a spark plug to cause a car not to start. Run bad yes but not start no. It has to be another issue. Did this happen all of a sudden?? What i have seen is the security system deside to set. This will cause a crank no start. This problem that can drive even good mechanics nuts. Our own mechanics have swarn it was a bad fuel pump, replaced it only to have the same problem. Do you have another key you can try? Other then cam or crank sensor or you need to have it looked at. Did you check for fuel at the fuel line shrader valve? Its a sure fire way to see if your fuel pump is working. I showed my mechanic this valve and he said opps. The valve looks like a tire valve on the fuel line at the top of the motor. If i recall on the Fusion its located near left rear of the motor as your facing it. All you have to do is, with the car off, put a rag over it to catch any thing spraying. Make sure the car is cold also put on some sort of eye protection, take a small awl or screw driver and depress hte center of the valve. Just like you would let air out of a tire. Fuel should come out. What ever you do make sure the car is off and cool. No need to have fuel spray on a hot motor.. You could also rent a fuel pressure gauge and hook it up there. Most tool rental places have them and can tell you how to use it. I hope this helps. Ford also has a free technical service hot line in the US 1 don't know about the UK but the us number is 1800-Ford-788. Thats the performance hotline but I am sure they can direct you.
