Legal depends on your location and your dmv laws. You can swap a h22 in there, just convert the engine to run obd1 and i recommend a obd1 p72 ecu. A b series is probably a better choice for suspension and steering issues. But yeah you can swap in a h22 engine and transmission. You will need a wiring harness and ECU for the h22. Possibley new axles as the h22 is a larger engine and the axle widths are different. The engine and tranny mounts are different and may need modified mounts or a mount kit purchased from an aftermarket supplier. In some cases, a new fuel pump will be needed. Then, depending on your states dmv requirements, you may need to have it smog certified by an auto shop that does certifications and tags the motor. You are going from a 1.6 to a 2.2 liter motor, so be careful of cooling differences, and a new radiator may be needed, but in the mods we have done, we have only had to replace two radiators. Are you sure you want to tackle this on your own? Yes and yes...Unless your trying to spend a lot of money, its not the smartest idea. Nothing against the h22, there nasty if done right, the vtec is insane!....That enigne is heavy! It will bend the front end of your car over a period of time. That engine is built for a big car like a prelude and accord. The torque also, your probably not gonna like it because its too much torque for that car...but again if you spend the money and get it done right, it will be sick!! You should stick with b-series tho.
