Well with out knowing what year or make car it is this will be a shot in the dark. Did you check to make sure your starter is not staying ingaged too long? It may also be a valve train noise. You should have someone start the car while you listen to the area its coming from or vice versa. Usually alternator and alike will continue to be noisy and it will usually be a squeel not a grinding noise.I've had the same problem for about a year. I have taken it to 4 different shops (including the local Ford Dealership) and no one can tell me what is wrong. They say there is nothing loose on the car anywhere and power steering is good. The best answer I can get is a possible broken front exhaust pipe bracket, which I am having inspected on Monday.I'll let you know how it goes.
