I think the Z3 is a great car!! It has a classic design created by Joji Nagashima (also designer of E39 5-series). Technically, the car has it's drawbacks, such as an old rear trailing arm suspension design (from the E30 3-series), rear subframe weakness issues, and the typical BMW issues such as cooling system failures under 100K miles.ANY ONE know where the aux fan switch is on a JEEP CHEROKEE 1987?
However, if you look past the technical aspect of the car, it is a car that inspires many of its passionate owners. Just look on the internet and find the several dozen forums and other website dedicated to the Z3!! You won't find as great a following for the Z4. The Z4, though technically more advanced than the Z3 lacks passion.
Owners of classic cars, some which are slower and won't handle as well as today's affordable new hondas, love those classics because they ignite a fire in your heart. Even though the Z3 was introduced not so long ago in 1996, it too ignites a love affair with its owners. If you're someone who puts your heart's desires before the rationality of your mind, then you will appreciate the Z3.
Oh, and by the way, the Z3 was assembled in Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA.
