i have just bought a p reg 1.8 406, over the past few days the speedo, rev counter and fuel gauge are sticking so i am not getting true readings, the breather pipes have become clogged so stinks of oil and some mornings it won't even turn over, then it does after i've tried a few times, my main concern is how do i get to breather pipes to clean them as i can't afford a mechanic, i only bought the car to get me to and from hospital for my treatment and can't afford to spenda lot on it, cheers in advance

the 406 petrol are common for the plug that sits along the nsf of the cylinder headare you using a lot of coolant
are there any leaks from the pipe above the speed sensor (i think its brown plug) just above the gearbox
breather pipe all crack as you touch them
they were not common for that fault
if it goes up and down on idle clean your stepper motor other than that hope you get it fixed

I don't know about cleaning those pipes, but the cause for the engine not starting sometimes, might be the electromotor (the electricity powered motor that starts up the fuel powered one - English is my second language and I'm not that good with naming car parts in English yet). I have a Renault and it does that too... starting after a few tries... and I'm sure it's the electromotor.For the indicators sticking, I think you should buy new ones. Try to find some at a scrap yard and fit them on your car.
But...and this is a big but... european cars, such as Renault and Peugeot are not made to be repaired in one's back yard...they're pretty complicated and specialized help is almost always needed. So... I think you should still see a mechanic about all these problems.

The breathers can be cleaned out with the use of a bottle brush and a big bowl of soapy water. Remove them and clean them out.
The starting problem is possibly due to the fuel pump relay. Switch on the ignition but do not start the engine. You should hear a 1 or 2 second hum or buzz from the area of the fuel tank. This is the fuel pump primimg the fuel system ready the start the car. If you don't hear the buzz then you should look at renewing the fuel pump relay.

An easy way to test the relay is to substitute it with another similar relay from your vehicle and see if it makes a difference.
