Question:
Ok i am 20 yrs old and itsmy first car and i have had it for a yr (took out a loan and bought it off of someone) and i have probably got to drive it for 2 months put of the whole yr. First the brakes then the alternantor, i got someone that "new what he was doing" that helped me and put the alternator on for free and it hasnt started since before he worked on it. Im so frustrated what can i do or should i do?
Answers:
Your only problem is the one that "knew what he was doing".
My advice to you is that if you can't afford to pay a real mechanic, see if you can take out an additional loan and take it to a VW dealer. If you can do that then have them replace the water pump and timing belt while they have it taken apart as they are regular wear items too, so you can enjoy your wonderful car as much as I do mine. e-mail me if you have any other questions.
Get rid of it. It's rated one of the top ten worse cars to buy.
Is anyone familiar with a 1971 Pontiac Ventura?
It sounds like a connection may not have been made on the alternator. It could possibly be a defective alternator or faulty installation. Check around the alternator for wires that are not plugged in or connections on the alternator that have nothing going into it. Did you plug in any wires to the alternator when you installed it? Most newer cars have two sets of wires, one is a connector and one is a single wire that attaches to the alternator onto what looks like a bolt and a nut to hold it on.More Questions & Answers ...
