my legacy's check engine suddenly came on, 4 hours after, i put filles the gas tank(so i am not sure if the lid was not tight enogh) aside that , does any one have an idea what the problem could be?

I own a shop, and I can tell you this; Take it to Auto Zone, and they can pull the codes for you at no charge, and tell you what caused the light to come on. Without the codes it's impossible to tell what did it. It would be guessing at this point.Glad to help out, Good Luck!
depending on the year, it could be your O2 sensor for your emissions. jsut go and get that checked out asap.

Go to Auto Zone for a free check engine code reading. They'll attach a hand-held code reader to your car and read the code. Then they'll guess what the problem is and recommend something (usually some ignition parts or oxygen sensors). My guess: if it's a misfire - spark plugs. If it's evaporative - gas cap. You can also get yourself a decent code reader for about $100. It comes with the cables, software, and instructions.
