Question:
one of which is, is it normal for the engine to be very hot to the touch to where its hard to even check the oil even when just driving it a short distance? The systems check does not indicate that the car is overheating at all. Just wondering if its normal for the engine to be so hot. Other question is in regards to a ticking sound that comes from underneath the car thats noticeable when the car is off.

Why is there never hyundai tiburon commercials on TV?
Yes all engines are too hot to touch even after driving a short distance. The newer engines ared desinged to get up to operating temp very quickly. It's an emissions thing. The ticking is most likely the exhaust system cooling down after you shut the motor off. Those get VERY hot due to the catalytic converter. It's much more noticable on newer cars since the exhuast system has not broken in yet as far as expansion and contraction is concerned. As long as you rtemp guage reads normal things are ok. If you are still concerned take it to a shop and have them verify the guage is operating correctly.Normal and normal.
Engines run at 195-205 deg F.
Noise is from the catalytic converter/ associated shrouds.
What would be the best swap for my '95 Acura Integra 4dr??
Not a ticking thing that is going to go BOOM.
1993 ford t-bird it runs fine but seems to heat up quickly, there is coolant what do you figure?
It is common for the engine to be hot to the touch, of course you should always pay close attention to all indicators, my guess on the ticking sound (if this is it, it is vary common) is the exhaust system cooling down, the metal is contract as it cools. Hope this helps you.All the previous answers here are correct. I can attest to the ticking noise on my Subaru.
Engines: Aluminum block vs. Iron block?
You shouldn't be checking the oil when the car was just used. You have to wait at least 20 minutes after the car was used. Then you can check the dipstick to get an accurate reading.
