Ram trucks around this time had problems with the connector and headlight switch.. If you were to pull out the headlight switch.. and unplug it.. you will notice the center wire of the connector is burned.. the Dodge dealer has a repair for this which includes a new connector and wiring..For anyone who's ever owned a 1997 Dodge Avenger ES .?
Its the dash switch. Get a good aftermarket switch, not one from the dealer, they are junk. My uncle had the same problem with his 96 ram.Believe this or not I had the same problem it was both low beams burn out.If you have a test light check to see if currant is at the low beam side of the wiring. Also check all light ground on front of radiator support

Low beam is gone in both at same time? Look for something in common first. Next, just to be sure, you could take a "hot" wire from the battery and a ground and touch it to the flanges at the back of the bulb. If you can get 2 seperate lights to work - the bulb is good. That would mean either the hi/lo switch is no good or a break somewhere else.Take headlights out and test for continuity.Then replace the one(s) that is burned out.

MAYBE UNDER RECALL, CALL YOUR DEALER WITH THE VINNUBER AND MILEAGE. IF IT WAS DONE PREVIOUSLY ,CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE WIRES WERE SOLDERED AND NOT PUT TOGETHER WITH BUTT CONNECTORS. ALSO TOWING WITHOUT A RELAY FOR THE PARK LAMP CIRCUIT FOR YOUR TRAILER WILL BURN UP THE HEADLAMP SWITCH.........
