Question:
Hey Im looking to buy a 66 Mustang and the only problem with it is that it only moves in reverse. Is it a linkage problem or is the tranny shot? If it isnt blown is it a simple fix? Also the motor has a ticking sound, is it just a flat rocker arm?

Not sure about the tranny, post another question including which tranny it has. Most likely a C4 auto, a 3 speed, or a 4 speed.1994 BMW 325I Convertibel top Issues?
As far as a "tick" goes, there are LOTS of options but we will need to know what engine it has. A few easy fixes that "tick":
1) an exhaust leak
2) a loose spark plug
3) water pumps can "tick" if the bearings are shot
What would cause a thud in breaks, and then stalling on '94 Grand Am?
You can eliminate pulley ticks by removing the belt and spinning the pulley for the water pump and alternator and see if any noises come from there. We don't have enough info but if it has A/C or power steering then you can check those as well with the belt off. If no noise comes from any of the pulleys then you know that is exhaust or internal. Start by tightening the spark plugs (just to be sure). If the "tick" gets louder and faster when you increase the RPM's then it may be an exhaust leak-could just be a manifold or header gasket or could be a cracked exhaust component. If these simple things are ruled out then you need to start looking inside-check the oil pressure, see if there is any metal in the bottom of the oil pan (main bearing or rod bearing pieces). Lifters are another option, there could be a wiped cam lobe or it may be fixed with a simple valve adjustment.

A few general 64 1/2-66 mustang shopping tips:
1)If at all possible, avoid buying an east coast car (rust rust rust)
2)Search the common rust areas for the specific year (cowl, bottom of doors, undercarridge, floors under carpet, floor at passengers feet, trunk area, wheel wells, etc.
3)Look for little bubbles in the paint(this is commonly rust that was painted over)
4)If it has a vinyl top be cautious, many of them are very rusty under the vinyl tops
5)Don't believe everything a seller tells you (ie: "rebuilt" engine, "new" paint, etc etc

Is it automatic or manual trans? It could be a linkage problem, but it's hard to be sure. With a trans that old you should probably have it rebuilt anyway. We have a 1929 Dodge DA. What does the DA stand for?
the engine ticking is usually a bad lifter, the trans is more than likely shotChanging Timing Belt on 98 CR-V B20B4 motor?
