On my 86 bronco (same doors as an 86 F-150) I think the stock speaker was 51/2 or 61/2 so yes a 4 inch speaker would fit, but you may have to buy an installation kit for it, or you could just make one.

Where in the door are you trying to fit them? In the stock mounting holes? If so, that truck takes 6 1/2" round speakers.

yes they will fit. the only problem is you might not be able to roll your windows down all the way. my dad has speakers in his door of a 1965 f100 and he is not able to roll them down all the way because the window hits the speakers.

Yes they will fit. Although the stock speakers are of the 6.5" round variety and putting a 4" speaker instead won't let you secure the speaker properly. I would jsut get the 6.5" speakers they are cheap and plentiful.
