I own a 1995 Chevy Camaro Z28. It doesn't share exactly the same engine as your 98 Formula or TA, but in some ways they are similar. They also share some other parts.
My car has been pretty reliable in the 6 years I've owned it. Just some little things here and there that I fixed myself. Gas mileage can dip to near the single digits with a very heavy foot, with lots of traffic, hills, etc. I've gotten close to 30mpg on cross country trips though. Driving to work I get about 20mpg.

Your car is capable of even better mileage (though not a WHOLE lot).
Actually if you get one that has been taken care of they are very reliable.They got the LS1 in 98 which is the best small block engine ever made.I know alot of people with them and I have also owned this year of trans am. For gas mileage you should expect mid to high teens
