No it is not hard, but you have to be very careful not to move the car or move the engine rotation in any way while the dist.is out. You must first note and mark the position and direction of the rotor so that when you put back it is pointing exactly in the same direction. Best insurance would be to buy a book at your local auto store for your golf.

no it is very easy. there is 1 13mm bolt that holds down the clamp at the bottom of the distributor. remove the 1 bolt and pull it straight out. make sure you set the engine at tdc so when you put the new one back in you can line up the timing mark.
