Question:
My 2005 jetta has started making this metal "clacking" noise whenever i go over bumps on the road. It also seems to make the same sound when I hit the brakes (going above 10mph). It sounds like it's coming from the front of the car, though I can't be sure. I have taken it to the mechanic who heard the noise but told me he could find absolutely nothing wrong with the car. His advice: just ignore it. Its pretty loud and I feel like i'm driving an old beat up car, I hate that :( Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

How many miles is a Subaru Impreza good for?
there are 2 common problems on your car that make noises like that. the first one is the sway bar bushings get worn out and when you hit bumps it will make a clunking noise. the second common problem is the exhaust hanger right behind the catalytic converter has 2 welds that break often and when you hit bumps it makes a metal on metal clinking noise. i would recommend you bring the car to the vw dealer and have one of the techs go for a ride with you.Its because the bought a German Ford. Oh well, your problem right?
How much can i get for a 97' elantra with about 100k miles on it?
I'd try a different mechanic! There's definatelty something causing it, probably to do with the suspension. If the mechanic can't show you what is making the noise, get a second mechanic's opinion >from a different shop<. " you got to think in mechanic terms here.... if it ain't broken there is nothing to fix, I will just wait..." Metallic noises are not good so do it soon,
