your rear wheel speed sensor on the rear differential has a chafed wire where it passes through the bracket.(about 8 inches down the wire from the sensor, common problem and easily fixed. check engine light comes on because the pcm is losing it's speed sensor input. Liberty's are alot of fun, with not too many problems. The sensor is located at the top of the differential, inspect the wire closely, you'll probably find a nick in the wire, bend it and look, the wire inside will be green and fuzzy and probably break, you'll need to replace that section of wire, 3" from the break both ways, because the green corrosion wicks up the wire and solder will not stick to the corroded wire. Yes, Solder. Butt connectors should never be used externally. Seal your repair with shrink tube, not electrical tape and your repair will last the life of the vehicle.
