How do i replace the battery on a 2001 audi a-4?
the 86 will not have auto-locking hubs, so first thing you will need to do is Lock the hubs, there will be an assembly on the hub that turns, thurn this to lock. Then get into the vehicle and pull the lever on the floor into 4-Hi (this is generally towards you 1 notch) You can shift between 2 and 4Hi while driving down as long as your foot is not on the gas pedal. To switch to 4-lo you will either have to FULLY stop and put the transmission in P or N you will then be able to move the lever for the transfercase to the N position and then into the 4-lo position. With a manual transmission you have to put it into N. a Manual transmission won't require a complete stop but you will have to slow down to under 5 MPH. If you do not have 4WD still then you probably have blown hubs on the front. This can easily be determined by having a second person drive the vehicle and walk alongside while looking underheath. If the front driveline is turning but you dont get power to the wheels you need new front hubs. If by chance the T-case is bad you can check this by making sure both front hubs are unlocked, putting it in 4WD and again walking alongside while looking underneath at the front driveline, if it is spinning your T-case is good if it is not spinning then your T-case (should be the NP-208) will need to either be replaced or rebuilt. If the truck has manual locking hubs you must first stop the truck, place it in park, and get out and lock both front hubs. When back in the truck, shift the transfer case lever to either 4wd low or 4wd high. You are in 4wd once this is done!
also remember that you can shift into 4 high while moving but not under torque. 4 low requires a dead stop with trans in park or nuetral. reverse sequence to shift to 2 high.
