Are Subaru's noisier than Honda's?

Question:
I just got a 2004 Subaru Forester (5 speed). I noticed its noisier than my 2004 honda CRV (5-speed). Is that normal?

2007 ridgeline?

Yes Subarus are noisier than Hondas (and Toyotas). Hondas and Toyotas have more refined engines and noise insulation. Subaru engineers did not focus on noise as much as Honda and Toyota. They were more concerned with handling and all-wheel-drive technology because management knows that it's not a mainstream company, and that they shouldn't be too focused on doing what Honda and Toyota are doing. I'm guessing that Subaru wants to become more mainstream now and compete with the big boys. They'll be focusing more on noise. Toyota owns a small stake in Fuji Heavy Industries (parent company of Subaru) now.

I have a '99 pontiac and it started for a few seconds then died.?

How do you remove the steering wheel 1995 chevrolet cavalier with a air bag?

I came across that very same dilemma, I was looking at the Forester and the CR-V 4 months ago while looking for a used vehicle. I found the Forester had an annoying knock in the motor (all the ones I looked at had it) and driving it wasn't as refined as the CR-V. I ended up buying a CR-V and very happy with it's build quality and the smooth drive train. I do like the fact that the Forrester's AWD system is quicker to re-act, the Honda allows the wheels up front to spin before activating the rears, I guess this is probably why the CR-V gets pretty good gas mileage as it's front drive most of the time.

Does anyone have a copy of the fuse layout for a golf TDI 2001?

I own a 2007 Forester (automatic)...maybe the used/older manuals have this problem but I certainly do not! You can't even tell if the car is running (just by listening). Plus, the Subaru is way safer (my 2006 got obliterated by an old Suburban and saved my butt)!! The Symmetrical AWD is amazing as well. Maybe I'm just biased because I don't like Hondas, but I think a little bit more noise is not the way to choose a car or not. Good luck with your new/old 'ru!

I have an 85 jeep cj7 that turns over but won't start. Gas is going to the carb.?

It depends on the model--I would not say the Legacy, for instance, is noisier than the Accord. However, the Forester is certainly not Subaru's quietest model.

I have a 1984 Delta 88 with 307 small block. what do i do to the 307 to get about 400hp?

The type of noise is different, too--the noise in Hondas comes from the road while their engines are quiet; Subarus have a deeper, more guttural engine sound (which I find pleasing... others don't).

How do i install a new passenger side mirror (power) on a 1989 accord?

Historically, Subaru engines have always been significantly rougher with a manual transmission than with an automatic--having ridden in/driven two second-generation Legacy wagon models that are identical save for the transmission, I can say it's definitely the case! Subarus seem also to have rather thin sheetmetal, which can give a more tinny sound over rough surfaces.

IQ question (of sorts) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .?

I plan on adding some sound-deadening material to the doors and other interior sheetmetal surfaces of the '96 Legacy I currently drive, which is not a model of quietness.

Having trouble with my 1997 Dodge truck. At about 1/2 tank of gas. It stalls out or won't go. Any ideas?

I can't compare the CR-V to the Forester, because I don't own either one. I can answer the general question just for fun, though. I owned a Honda Accord for 8 years prior to buying a Subaru Outback. The Accord was quieter overall, but I like the noises that the Subaru makes when it does make noise. The H-6 engine is quiet enough at idle that I did something this week that I have not done in 20-25 years; I tried to start the car when it was already running. Jeez.

Has anyone experienced Mitsubishi carisma performance & maintaince wise (second hand)?

There is more mechanical whine in the drivetrain in the Outback than the Accord, for sure.

Now I'll step aside for the people who might be able to answer your real question. I was just reacting to the part that showed in bold print.

2005 hemi ram or 2006 4.7 ram?

the forester's engine is not noisy because of the boxer engine that cuts down vibration thanks to its 180 degree flat configuration unlike your crv's engine that can compete with each other and eliminate the inertia of opposing pistons
