Question:
1996 Nissan Altima STE,74k miles, good looking shape lil dirty under the hood, drives fine and runs just a tad louder than I thought it should(but i'm not a mechanic). Went to test drive it for the 2nd time yesterday and the starter didn't work when it did the previous test drive. Is this something I should be concerned about over all or just replace it and it's fine? Is this one of those cars that when something goes bad other things seem to line up behind it to go bad also?

look, for 75 bucks take it to the nissan dealership and ask them to go over it. u dont have worries and worse case scenario is u dont want the car and u are out 75 bucks. on the plus side, they may find stuff and u negotiate the price down. but as the other guy said, it is 11 yrs old and things wear out. its got fairly low mileage and u shouldnt have much to worry about for another 30 k miles. How hard is converting an automatic?
Don't buy it. Look for a 99 altima - they go for about $4 - $6k and are really reliable beyond 125k miles. The 96 models are a pain to fix when they get this old. just my opinion. I have seen older altima owners spanked for 15hrs of labor (@ $80/labor hr = $1200 plus parts) for an engine re - seal job. If you bought it new and will drop this kind of money to keep your baby runnin, fine. But you're looking for a deal right? It's no deal if you are forced to spend another $3k to get it to idle right.Where on the web can i find a complete parts list for building small block chevy?

Good price. Make sure it's not a flood car. The starter installed will run $300 (service station) to $500 (dealership). Open the oil filler cap and make sure it's not gummy in there(oil not changed regularly). Check the rubber boots. Could be expensive if those front-end parts have lost their lube. See if the seller has maintenance records.More Questions & Answers ...
