Question:
original motor in mustang was a 3.8L V6
Answers:
Anyone who has experince with honda preludes?
Nope not even close the ONLY similarites between the 3.8L Taurus and Mustang motors is the fact that they both displace 3.8 Liters The engine blocks are not even remotely close to the same.Absolutely not. The Mustang is a rear wheel drive vehicle with the motor mounted longitudally. The Taurus is a front wheel drive car with the motor mounted laterally. In essnce it would require more adaptation than the swap is worth.
'95 mustang - can not figure it out?
Probably if it's the same year. Call a junkyard, they have interchange manuals for just that purpose. They will know for sure, and they often can tell you what parts will need to be transferred. Can I change the backlight for the dash, stereo, etc. on my 06 Charger to another color?
I'm assuming you mean a 3.8L from a Taurus and not the 3.0L.Why is there a loud fan like noise every time I start my new Chevy Trailblazer?
This swap would probably be more trouble than it's worth. The primary reason being the '96 Mustang's engine would have an OBD-II setup and the last 3.8L available in the Taurus was in 1995, which would have been an OBD-I setup. The computers/sensors/wiring harnesses would be greatly different. Essentially you'd have to swap over the computer and wiring harness from the Taurus to make it work - which in and of itself require some engineering/modifying to work.
In addition, because the Taurus engine is transversely mounted, it is highly likely the oil pan and intake at the very least are different than the Mustang's and would require Mustang parts (assuming they would fit, I believe the 3.8L underwent some design changes in '96).
MPG for a 98 Chevy Monte Carlo?
Bottom line, it could be made to work, but it really wouldn't be worth the effort. Even the Taurus engine was free, I don't think there would be any ultimate cost savings by the time you swapped everything. It would be simpler to just have the Mustang's long block rebuilt.
Hot Rod? 1963 Buick Skylark...?
Dallas_Gay and yes_its_me's answers so far, are the only answers that are close to correct. First of all, what engine are we referring to? If it's a 3.8L V6 from a 1995 or older Taurus, the answer is NO, it will NOT fit. The 3.8L V6 engines use TWO different engine blocks, each of which are dedicated to specific front-wheel-drive, and rear-wheel-drive applications. The Taurus 3.8L engine block will have FWD cast into the block as well as different engine mount bolt hole locations, and most importantly, the bellhousing bolt pattern is completely different from the RWD applications. The Mustang/Thunderbird/Cougar 3.8L engine block uses the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 5.0L (302) and 5.8L (351W) engines.Should I turn a '91 Integra LS into a project car? Thoughts?
Secondly, 1996 and newer engines used different cylinder heads than the 1995 and older applications. This means the intake manifold ports on your 1996 intake will not match up with a 1995 or older cylinder heads, which also use larger diameter intake bolts.
Can you upgrade a 1997 range rover to a 2004?
These are just the known differences so far, but I'm sure there are many more, which make this intended swap more of a hassle in time, work, and money to even consider, let alone carry out. I'm sorry, but you'll need to find another 1996 or newer Mustang V6 engine to use, if you don't want headaches. Hope this helps.
Where can I find a convertiable BMW for less than $5000?
Why would you want to? I had a Taurus and it was the biggest piece of junk I ever had; I was constantly repairing it. To answer your question, like most other people were saying, it would be more trouble than it's worth. Maybe you could try to look for another Mustang engine if you haven't done that already. Hope this helps.More Questions & Answers ...
