I'll second the comment for "real world numbers". Many Insight and Prius owners paid for 50-60mpg, but rarely break 45mpg. The testing to determine mpg was done under "ideal" conditions, somewhat different than most users can generate during their normal daily drive.what car is better working a chevy or pontiac?
Many VW TDI owners report higher than the 45-49mpg listed on the sales sticker. My '01 New Beetle has a sticker estimate of 45mpg highway, and I see 48-50 regularly, and that is traveling much faster than the "benchmark" 55mph that people say is the ideal speed to drive.
On a side-note for the Rabbit Diesel. It always makes me wonder how my '81 rabbit diesel could achieve 49mpg with its 1.6idi engine, yet 20 years later, they've improved on the technology, yet the mpg is still the same?
