My concorde was running just fine then all of a sudden the speedometer went all crazy going up and down then the check engine light came on and the car is like its stuck in 3rd gear. It goes into neutral, reverse, but when in drive stays in one gear only. Its an automatic, the fluid is good, anyone know what this could be, I'm hoping we don't need a whole new Tranny, could it be anything else.

First, the input and output speed sensors are the most common problem with Chrysler transmissions causing them to do this. Unfortunately, many people mistake a simple sensor problem for needing a new transmission. These also control the speedometer, so if they went out, the speedo would go crazy while it was going out.
How much is it worth? Clio William2? Volkswagon scirocco? in great condition?
Replacing it does usually fix the problem since the remanufactured transmission usually comes with new sensors. But that's a lot of money to fix something that was a simple fix, and I have seen some that did not come with new sensors, and in this case you would still have the same problem.

If you need just one sensor, tell the shop to go ahead and replace both while they're in there (if they don't suggest it to you). It will keep you from having to come back in in a short period of time to replace the other.

They will be able to connect to the vehicle with the diagnostic equipment designed specifically for a Chrysler vehicle instead of a one-size-fits-all type aftermarket diagnostic equipment.

If you do find that it needs a transmission rebuild or replaced, you can always go get a second opinion before comitting to the work (I'd recommend it). Most places will charge a dignostic fee, but that will generally be deducted from the repair if you come back and have the repairs done there later (be sure to ask first, though).

If they offer you either replaced or rebuilt, go for the remanufactured unit. It may cost a bit more than a rebuild, but it's money well spent. A rebuild is done in shop and generally comes with a 30 to 90 day warranty (sometimes up to a year). The remanufactured unit is done under controlled circumstances and should have at least a 3 year 50k mile warranty, some are better than that.
Those who say Chrysler built a junk transmission generally are those who repalce them unnecessarily when a simple fix would have sufficed. Of course, technically, everything mechanical wears out over enough time, so (again, technically), every automatic (or even manual) transmission in the world has a 100% fail rate, eventually. Chances are, you just need sensors replaced.

It's in the "limp mode" - when a computer senses malfunction it locks the trans in the second - not in third - gear. This trans originally known as A604 has been re-named to 42LE due to extremely bad track record and associated publicity. It has 100% failure rate. Sorry but you will have to take it to a repair shop to be rebuilt or - likely - replaced. Expect damage about $2,000 worth.What is age diff between hritik & suzzane?
The fact that the speedo went nuts as or just before this happened and the check engine light turning on.It sounds a bit like the electronics or transmissions computer is having a problem. The valve body is computer controlled and the car you have was among the first of the newer generation Concorde's i.e. they did not have all of the bugs out yet any good shop with computer diagnosis capabilities could help you with this one.something easy to replace is the output speed sensor on the side of the transaxle. we see quite a few of these at the Chrysler dealership, the symptoms sound familiar. the part number is 4800879, I cant remember the price offhand, but I think they are less than $30.
