My 1991 escort wont go into any gear.it was fine utntil i started up my driveway & it just went out of gear.?

Question:
It still wont go into gear. It does'nt make any strange noise or anything. I have never had a problem with it and have taken very good care of it. The sad thing is that after it stopped moving and i checked the transmission fluid, it was almost bone dry. do you think i need an entire transmission or just replace something inside?

Money!? I need help?

Need a whole new one, or rebuilt one. Either way, is not cheap.

Question for subaru owners?

First, fill the tranny with fluid, the run the engine for awhile, trying to put it in gear. If it leaks, you have a blown gasket or you cracked it. If it doesnt, take it to a pro. You can usually get an estimate cheap, then you know what you are dealing with.

have a 1997 nissan sentra wgn-cold start, had to up idle & dbl pedal when stop or will die?

Well, you can try to replace the fluid and see what happens...if fluid doesn't help you probably need to have your transmission rebuilt....and it depends too on how much heat built up inside there as to whether the damage is permanent.

How to remove door panel 2000 Nissan Pathfinder?

Depending on the incline angle of the driveway, it was probably not getting fluid to the converter. So you may have a leak in the lines somewhere or possibly the transmission pan gasket is leaking, or a combination of both. Anyway you look at it, you need to add fluid back to it to see what happens. Once you do that, run the engine and try putting the car in gear (with your foot on the brake for safety). It probably won't do anything at first. You will be working air out of the system, and filling the converter back up with fluid. Try shifting back and forth between drive and reverse a few times. If it does shift into gear, place the transmission back in park and with the engine running, check the fluid level for 2 things. 1.The level to see if it is full or not. 2.The color of the fluid. The proper way to check transmission fluid is with the car running. Without the car running, an automatic transmision will read fuller than it truely is. If the color is a nice red color, then it indicates there is nothing wrong or burnt up in the transmission. Ideally, transmission fluid is a pretty cherry red. If clutches or bands are burnt, the fluid will stink and be a dark brownish red. If it is this color, and especially if the car doesn't go in gear after refilling it, then you need to have your transmission rebuilt. So here is the bottom line: put fluid in it to the proper level and see if it moves. If it does, and the fluid is not too dark, you are back in business. If it does not move, then the transmission needs to either be rebuilt or replaced. Price having that one rebuilt vs. having it replaced with a good one from a salvage yard. Your pocketbook will then be the determining factor as to the route taken at this point. If this is your first time of having transmission trouble, I can fully understand the fear and frustration. I've had it happen to me on a car in time past. Also having formerly owned a garage and salvage yard for 20 some odd years, I've helped both women and men deal with the situation. I don't know which is worse- losing a transmission or losing electricity for a week like a number of us have just done here in the midwest. Both are frustrating. But you can get through this. I know you can.

Anyone have a Mini Cooper?

well the first u need to put some tarnsmission fluid in it and then take it to a shop u might just got a leak

my 1991 nissan 300zx leaks radiator fluid from the heat/ac duct inside the car on the floor board.?

Put fluid in it. Then jack the front end up so both tires clear the ground use jack stands. Carefully get in start it up and put into drive and let it idle. This will get fluid back to the converter quicker. See if one of the wheels start turning. If it does ,then place in park and turn it off. Take it off the jack stands. Start it back up and leave in park and recheck the fluid. If the fluid was drained from the converter due to a leak it will be low on fluid. FIll it up to full point. Then attempt to drive it. Don't try to go very far. Just far enough to let it change thru all the gears. If it shifts out ok tranny should be fine. But take it to a shop and have them look for a leak. It would not hurt if you put some transmission conditioner in with the fluid. Lucas makes a fine product and you could also use transmedic.
