Question:
I'm not sure if a turbo kit would be the right idea for a car that gets so much wear on it. What alternatives are there besides supercharging it?

When i start my car up there is a knocking noise for a few seconds then it goes away?

Cold air intake-Hi-flow cats-header-better exhaust-custom tunes-Etc. Best bang for the buck is nitrous, use it when you want too, just don't exceed your motors ability.(250shot)You would be safe with a 100Hp dry shot, given that you had the right people or company do the install.Cheaper than a turbo plus you use it when you want that extra power!

Xterra owners?

port and polish everything, the head, intake, and the fuel runners, the exhaust ports and the exhaust manifold, use a bigger camshaft set up with about 16 degree advance, use a header and freeflow exhaust(borla is the best), use a really good cold air cleaner system,(aftermarket) and you'll get around 200 + doing that.

What engines will fit a vw beetle modle 1970s?

Don't waste your time. If you want a car that can be turbocharged, look for a Camaro (ended production in 2002, returns 2009) or something else. Don't waste any time on an Ion. They are tiny and the engine cannot handle it. If you must turbocharge a small car like that, then trade it in for a Cobalt SS.
