Power steering pump in 2000 Jeep cherokee..?

Question:
Its making a squeaking sound...only when it hasn't been running for a few minutes. Once I get going its fine but its really annoying. Im trying to save as much money as I can so im definiteley fixing it myself. Can I replace the bearing or do I need to replace the power steering pump itself.what are my options? Thanks for your help.

I too have a Jeep Cherokee 2000. Mine does not squeak but I suspect it's a bearing. Once the shaft begins to turn possibly it heats up and expands thus tightening any "play" in the bearings thus no squeal. Just my thoughts.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as fixing a power steering pump anymore. The only option is replacement. This is a relatively simple task, but you'll need a pulley remover/installer. Simply remove the belt. Then remove the power steering lines (one threaded into pump, the other a rubber hose clamped on), then remove the bolts holding the pump on. Remove pump from vehicle, swap pulley to new pump and reassemble.
