Question:
Its making a squeaking sound...only when it hasn't been running for a few minutes. Once I get going its fine but its really annoying. Im trying to save as much money as I can so im definiteley fixing it myself. Can I replace the bearing or do I need to replace the power steering pump itself.what are my options? Thanks for your help.

I too have a Jeep Cherokee 2000. Mine does not squeak but I suspect it's a bearing. Once the shaft begins to turn possibly it heats up and expands thus tightening any "play" in the bearings thus no squeal. Just my thoughts.Mirror for Jeep with doors off & inside dome light...?
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as fixing a power steering pump anymore. The only option is replacement. This is a relatively simple task, but you'll need a pulley remover/installer. Simply remove the belt. Then remove the power steering lines (one threaded into pump, the other a rubber hose clamped on), then remove the bolts holding the pump on. Remove pump from vehicle, swap pulley to new pump and reassemble.More Questions & Answers ...
