when it comes on and stays on that means it has set a code ,and the code will be for the emissions controls OK, you can still drive it , but as soon as you can get it to some one that is ASE smog certified ,and or the dealer and have em check the codes, or (read the codes), OBD1, OBD2, OBD3 (stands for on board diagnostics)on a ford you just need to disconnect the negative battery for 30 seconds to reset the computer, but that is not a fixit .It is set to come on at certain millage intervals and is run from the computer, if a code is set and the light is on it will not pass smog legally , and its like o2 sensors or egr valve needs replaced, but as the car gets older it will need the emissions serviced especially if the light is set and will not go off or keeps coming on there is a emission problem, good luckMore Questions & Answers ...
