what is the difference been the "xls" and "xlt" on the Ford Explorer? Are they different somehow?
The same as any oil change. Get on your back underneath the front of the car (below your engine), and there will be an oil pan... It will have a drain plug (a bolt) in the middle on the back end (pointing towards your back wheels). Let all the oil drain out of this and put the plug back in, tight enough to prevent a future leak. Next step is the oil filter. It will probably be hanging somewhere -- if you're lucky it will be a Fram and it'll be bright orange (lol). Twist this off, let the oil drain out, and put the new filter on. Now you're set. Pop the hood, pour in the new oil (check frequently to be sure you don't over or under fill it). Turn your vehicle on and let it get to operating temperature (usually about half way), turn it off, let it cool down, and check for leaks. Boom. You're gold. Have fun!get the 4 qts of oil need for the car, an oil filter, grab you a 14mm wrench and something to catch the oil in. the oil plug is the back side of the oil pan nearer to the passenger side tire. drain it. replace plug making sure there is a little gasket on the plug (with toyotas sometimes they stick to the pan), then locate your oil filter (on a 2000 should be right in front of the oil pan facing up). remove filter making sure the old gasket comes off with the filter. put a slight bead of new oil on the new filter. install filter just beyond hand tight. add oil. start vehicle. hold gas at 1800 RPMs for 5 - 10 seconds to allow pressure on plug and filter to make sure they arent leaking. shut off engine. check oil level. see, very simple. or you can go to your local lube shop and let them worry about it. glad to help
