when i drive the truck, the light dims off and it seems ok. as soon as i turn the ignition off and take the keys off the lights stay on .. for that reason i have to keep turning my battery offf

the swicth that turn the light off is badyou probably have a bad lite switch, either at the door or the main switch. if your not afraid of the dark I would take the bulb out until you can fix it or have it fixed. It bets having to get under the hood every time you stop someplace.

I am guessing that a door switch went bad. I would test them to see. With the button pushed in you should have no continuity, but you should with it out. Until then, take the fuse out or the bulbs out. Everytime you unplug the battery you are re-setting the computer.
