You can slide the gearshift over and push it up or down to manually select the next gear but it still uses the torque converter just like an automatic. You also can not stay in something like 5th gear while at a stoplight or go to 1st gear while on the highway. It is idiot proof for the most part. I feel if you want to shift, get a manual.

Here's something to try: Accelerate to redline at WOT, stop accelerating as you upshift, and as the next gear is about to grab, floor it. You don't necessarily have to do it as quickly as you can, but if you get the timing right you'll get a much quicker shift and the transmission will "slam" into gear.

You can also blip the throttle as you downshift. It makes the shift smooth and the engine sounds nice.
