Question:
I have a 51 reg Transit front wheel drive, 260 swb td and the road noise when I get above 50 mph is getting quite loud and seems to be worse on the nearside, I think it may be a wheel bearing? If it is how much do you think it would cost to get repaired by a non-franchise garage?

Sometimes these noises can be coming from the front tires especially if they are a 'Nobby' kind of tread design.Usually a wheel bearing noise will make a grinding kind of noise. You can jack the wheel of the ground and grab both sides of the tire and try twisting it back and forth .If there is play, then yes it needs a new bearing. This is about a one hour labor job and hourly rates vary from station to station.Usually from $50 anhour to $80.00 an hour.More Questions & Answers ...
