But from a realistic point of view, the answer is no. What size engine are you thinking about? Clearance will be an issue. Even if you could physically drop a small block V8 into the engine bay, you will have suspension issues. You will also have computer issues, smog issues and most likely transmission issues. The tranny for the 4.0 ltr can't take the torque of a small block V8. Even if it did, you will then have to upgrade the drive shaft and rear end.
Maybe upgrade the radiator too.
You're truck will be way off balance too. Trucks are already front heavy. With the larger (heavier) engine it's gonna be a lot harder to handle. Are you replacing brakes too?

Yes, but not easily. The B4000 is basically a Ford Ranger. There are thousands of Rangers with 302s out there. I know there is a lot of work involved. Not really, Ford had to change the front crossmember and unit body to accomodate the 302(5.0L) V8 in this century. There are some customizers doing this though, as to price...
