Question:
I have a 99 BMW 528i automatic... When I roll at 50mph and release gas pedal for a couple of seconds and then hit gas again the transmission hesitates a lot (feels like it makes 4-5 attempts) before slipping into the right gear. Also when accelerating from 0 when it reaches 50 mph it makes a growling noise before changing into the next gear. How bad is this problem?
Do you think I can use 3 instead of D? When I manually put in in 3rd, it doesn't do that.
Also, another problem is when I am really low on gas (but still a couple of gallons left), when the empty light comes on, sometimes check engine light comes on too and the car shakes a little bit. What does that mean?

I have a Ford camshaft mark DG. Can anyone ID that?
With the transmission problem, does the "Trans Program" light come on? It should. If so, there will be a fault stored in the EGS (transmission computer). Even if the light hasn't come on, a fault should be stored. Either way, a well-equipped shop should be able to extract the code and properly interpret its meaning. Without the benefit of actually seeing/feeling your car, my initial instinct is that you need an EGS eprom upgrade, recode or reprogram your EGS, or maybe even low on fluid (leak?).How to change spark plugs on a 2000 toyota Tacoma?
When you're really low on gas, the engine may be running lean and triggering the Check Engine light, or in your case of a '99 528i (e39), it's the Service Engine Soon light. I would recommend avoiding running so low on fuel.
Anybody have experience with a 1984 Mercedes Benz 300SD?
Hope this helps, good luck!
I don't know about the transmission, but with the low gas, maybe there's too much sediment (junk) in the bottom of your tank and it's getting sucked up in the engine. Alhough with only 77xxx miles, this shouldn't be happening. I guess the first thing I would check with the transmission is the fluid level. Other than that, take it to an independant mechanic. They're just as good and usually chaeper than the stealership.
3000GT VR4 peak torque at 2500 RPM?
i own a repair shop and the transmission problem your speaking of may just be it in need of servicing right now especially if its never been done before ,it might be time to have a full maintenance on it ,as for the gas problem, your fuel gage may actually be off just a little ,the next time you get a chance to ,you might want to take it in and have it checked over real good the dealer can help you real good on this one, good luck with it i hope this help,s.Sounds like you are low on tranny fluid. If that's not it, it needs to be adjusted to narrow the 'rpm width' for changing gears. It works in '3' because when it is in Drive, it is 'fishing' between 3 and 4 (Drive). Putting it in 3 takes away the option for the car to make. Leave it in 3 until you get to over 50mph and manually shift to D. Or you could drive it in manual or sport mode (if you have that option) until it got fixed.
