after pulling away and changing to second gear the gear leaver became floppy and could not select any gears
there is movement on top of the gearbox from the two cables but cant feel or hear anything happerning in the gearbox ?HELP

hello my Friend...the problem with your ford galaxy is a common fault and i would almost guarantee that this is your fault.on the top of the gearbox you have the selector housing (the thing with the cables going to it) it is held in place with approx 5x 10mm bolts, it is a bit tricky to get out and you will have to release the engine mount to get it out so you will need to support the gearbox with a jack...once u have the bolts out,the cables off and enough room the housing will lift straight out.when u have the housing out you will see that a bolt has fallen out of it and dissapeared into the gearbox.dont worry about this bolt as i have stripped many gearboxs in search of it and have always found it firmly attatched to swarf magnet inside the box...in other words safe.find a replacement bolt..fairly standard 10mm head bolt...degrease the threads in the selector and fit the new bolt using threadlock... thats it job done rebuild and enjoy. oh by the way its worth changing the bearings in the selector housing while you are there as they are fairly cheap and are also a common concern as they seize...good luckWhy does my toyota pickup clutch squeak when engaging?
