Can any body help me with a problem I have with my 2001 honda passport?

Question:
I purchased my vehicle about 1 1/2 year ago. It runs well and I haven't had any major problems with it. There is a small oil leak due to what the oil shop said was a corroded seal which he said is common in these cars. Anyways, this past fall, I started noticing a noise when starting the car. The best way to describe this noice is like a metallic rapping or rattling noise. Like I said only when first starting the car in the morning. It then progressed to happening more often mostly when accellerating. It now happens all the time. I called the honda dealership and the man I spoke with suggested getting an oil change which I did immediately at a different shop. This did not help the problem at all. Does anyone have any answers or suggestions. Other than the noise the car seems to be running well. I am short on cash at the moment. Can I wait for awhile to bring it in or should i do so immediately?

1986 Mercedes 190E 2.3 sedan?

I've seen the insides of the catalytic converters break apart and cause the rattle on several different Hondas. That is easy enough to duplicate--have the honda dealer put the car up on a lift with someone in the vehicle to start it and run it. If you can hear a noise like marbles rolling around inside the converter as the throttle is quickly pressed and released then the converter is bad. In the US there is an 8 year 80,000 mile warranty on the converter under the emissions warranty. if the vehicle is beyond that it is an expensive replacement.

It may also be the heat shields that have broken a weld as the other respondant suggests. The dealer would be able to see that as well.

I wouldn't wait if the problem is with a deteriorated catalytic converter as the possibility exists that what is rattling around in there could get stuck in the exhaust stream and cause the car to stall.
