the motor is probably fine, mostly likely a bad regulator. i see it all the time. the description of how to take the door off before is correct.

in 6 years working on VWs and Audis, I have never come across a bad motor. It is always a bound regulator.

Hey just a stupid thought!! Did you check the fuses? I would before tearing the door panel off.. If fuses are fine then you probably need the motor replaced.. To take the panel off may have clips or those plastic inserts (not sure what they are called)..

when you depress the pwr. window button, do you hear the motor? if you don't it's possible that the motor is bad. so, you want to r/r the panel. (call an Audi dealer and ask a service advisor and or mechanic first) or go/call the parts because they can look it up on their micro-fische, regarding the r/r of the door panel. and finally, you could invest in some manuals if you're planning to keep the car.
