Life of BMW?
andrew unless u r in competition with your jeep save your time and most important your money your jeep has much potential for performance gain with getting foolish dollarwise I am a high perf tech w 20 yrs racing and fabrication exp. i am known for getting the most hp for the least$ here are a few suggestions, if you have an h.o. motor you already have a header on it, if not get one at the junkyard, next you want to replace your restrictive exhaust starting at the header all the way back, you need 2 1/2-3 in all the way. do not leave any original pipe in there it is too small, use a high flow cat and muffler dont waste your money on stainless it will only get messed up 4 wheelin, i transplanted a used cat from a 5.9 dodge van after i got hung up on rocks and ruined a 300.$ high flow unit so you can probabally save some money there too, next to the intake, they sell a throttle body spacer that raises the t,b. 1 1/2 inches this adds to mid range torque, next you need a cold air intake, jeep has a restrictive air cleaner,i cut a hole in my radiator core support between the radiator and headlight and used a childs beach pail to seal out the hot air from the engine compartment ,cut a 3 in hole in the bottom of the bucket for air intake tube, get a 7 or 8 in piece of round heating duct from home depot cut about 3 in off glue it to the core sopport with windshield eurethane trim back your pail till it's a tight seal onto your ducting then seal pail to the air cleaner tube with eurethane i then covered the whole thing with reflective insulation which i stole off 4 or5 gm cars , looks like tin foil mounted on firewall near ac lines, this acts like a poormans intercooler lowering air temp to intake by 70 degrees on hot days, next because intake and exhaust manifolds are mounted so close to each other i removed the intake and wrapped the headers with insulating wrap sold in summit catalog while the intake was off i covered the first 5 inches or so closest to the cylinder head with permatex ultra copper did the same over insulation wrap on the headers, looks ugly works great, temp is 200+degrees cooler at cylinder head entrance, next there is a trick i use to get more low rpm power, this trick is neither legal or good for longevity of your engine, the jeep has a nonadjustable distributor for emmisions you must take off your distributor cap click the motor over until the rotor points right at the engine mark the eng where the rotor points now remove the distributor, on the bottom of the dist. you will see a little square tab this is what locks the dist.in place this must be ground off to make timing adjustable, when reinstalling use mark you made on engine for rotor, leave dist.holddown snug so dist can be turned only with a great amount of effort start engine wait till idle comes down, turn dist in direction that makes idle go up this is advancing the timing only go about 3/8 of an inch you will notice the idle come back down after 2or 3 seconds it is computer controlled, next replace thermostadt with a low temp thermo 160 degrees or take it out completely, watch your temp though in rare cases this mod allows the water to flow so fast that the water doesen't get a chance to cool down while flowing in the radiator, this trick is for 2 reasons, first the computer will retard the timing after the truck reaches a certain temp 187 i think, second the motor will rev faster because there is less friction, parts get bigger as they heat up,as they fit tighter they create more drag which is the enemy to acceleration i know the engine builders, chemists and engineers are all gonna say more heat is more power, which is true but in all forms of racing the trophy goes the guy who accelerates faster not the guy who makes more power, now to the most expensive and hardest mod the camshaft what you want here is a midrange cam the stock jeep head is only going to make power till about 4500rpm so a high revving cam will do nothing for u unless u port the head, replace the pistons for more compression, add higher revving valve springs etc.stick with a mild cam don't let the hype fool you, use a high torque, not a high rpm high horsepower cam i used a cam dynamics unit that i get 18 mpg wlile towing a full size car and will run dead even with my sons modded gtp in the quarter mile, you don't need a $3500 super charger to go fast just a little know how, another cheap mod you could do is to take the front and rear differentials out of a 4 cylinder jeep these have 3.73 gears which will accelerate much better than stock 4.0 gears which are 3.23, these mods should be good for about 260+ hp and under $1000, with the 3.73 gears will do a 14sec 1/4 and able to jump huge vortecs and tritons in a single bound, jeeps are among the lightest suvs out there 2800 lbs depending on options, your truck will be faster even with less horsepower the only thing lacking is a posi rearend which will help as as traction in mud and snow, but are hard to come by if you need one of those it is much more common in the grand cherokee I've owned em all and nothing will compete with a jeep for triple the money check out some of the jeep sites from rock crawlers too mud dragsters ya just cant beat a jeep
what is the lady on the front of a rolls royce called?
car that old? im assuming you are using it for offroading purposes and recreation, considering you are putting money into an old not very fashionable car. personally i would get a supercharger because it runs off your belt system, whereas a turbo charger uses energy from the exaust stream. this makes the supercharger better at lower rpm's and is actually more efficient overall. turbo chargers are great for high rpm engines though. in addition, if you are offroading with your jeep, you might get some brush or somethin in front of the exaust pipe. the back pressure from this and from the turbocharger might combine and be enough to stall the engine. superchargers are typically more expensive, but they are easier to install. as for where to find one? i have no clue. i doubt you could even get a turbocharger at all.
How do I reset the service engine light on a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer?
Okay, like the guy above me said, off roading, then yeah supercharger cause of no turbo lag, or else it the extra power wouldn't help you get out of binds... but if you want to make overall power on the road then either/or i would think it harder to find superchargers rather than turbos, cause all you would need is custom fabrications for your piping... any turbo will work on any car, you just need flanges and manifolds specific to your application which will be custom, however with any turbo working, only certain kinds will be best for your jeep... and according to how much boost you would like... with such a big engine, you have enough torque to allow a larger area and radius of the turbo itself... so you get your power at the higher rpm's with a bit more lag, but better top end power... so just research it and ask shops in your area this kinda question because although they may never have done it to a jeep, they might have done it to that specific kind of engine, in that case if that specific engine is used in another car that has a turbo or supercharger kit, then you can just put that on... but you might have to do some custom fitting .... anyway just check out all your options... if you want power with a larger engine, just build the internals, you might not necessarily need a turbo or super... just check it outtt

Somebody else asked this same question a few days ago but I'm not going to go back and see if it was you. Anyways I advised that person that there are supercharger kits for the 4.0 XJ Cherokee (I used to have a 4.0) Here is a link for the kit.
anyone have an ls1 engine and at trans they are willing to give away let me know??
http://www.avengersuperchargers.com/...Would the ZZ 572/720R engine from General Motors Performance Parts fit in a 1964 Chevrolet Impala convertible?
They are NOT cheap, a turbo install would perhaps be cheaper but each method will cost about $3000 in my opinion.
How does the window crank handle on a 1996 VW golf come off Isee no screw or back clip?
Someone mentioned that you can have a shop install a turbo kit but wait until you see their labor costs, the piping is only part of the problem. Proper tuning, inter-cooling costs money so that you will still have a reliable vehicle.
I have a jeep grand cherokee 1993, what is wrong if it over heats?
I like turbos because when you aren't deep into boost it won't effect your gas mileage as much. A supercharger is always on and has no lag but you can't turn it off without a belt isolator of some sort.

will an exhaust from a 2002 wrx fit on a 2004wrx?
Unless you are rebuilding the engine when you install it, I wouldn't use either. You are putting excessive torque, pressure, etc. on 16 year old, who knows how many miles components and you WILL break something. Try some easier, cheaper upgrades first. Computer chips, high flow air filters, low pressure exhaust, etc. all are easy and cheaper.
