OK just to let you know it is not a good idea to lift newer vehicles it can mess with the computers. But with a 3" lift you should get three inches... thats with out changing tires.. if you get bigger tires it will also lift it some but again bigger tires can mess with speed sensors abs sensors and the computer so be careful.

I'm not sure about all the lift kit options for the 2000 Jeep Cherokee but as for a 3" lift if you get a 3" body lift which is a popular lift option it will simply lift the body of the vehicle off the frame 3". However, if you get a 3" suspension lift it would typically raise the frame of the vehicle minus the axles 3". I would say the better of the two options would definitely be the Suspension lift so I would make sure the 3" lift or whatever you're looking at isn't just a body lift.

Are you putting on any aftermarket accessories that will add weight? This would mean a winch, special bumpers, roof rack, etc. Anything that adds weight. I've watched guys put on a 4 inch lift along with a heavy new offroad bumper and wich and then complain when they didn't exactly get 4 inches! You have to be realistic abotu this.
