It's ironic because supposedly the UAW President Gettlefinger says he will not back down or give up anything in the next rounds of negotiations, and really...if they refuse to do so, they are really biting the hand that feeds them, and they shouldn't surprised that more jobs are going overseas.
Instead of trying to battle the issue with their employers, they really need to go up the totem pole and educate themselves as to how they can help pick politicians/lobbiests that will battle for their needs in Capital Hill. We don't have an administration that would like to keep such manufacturing jobs here. And at the end of the day, really all these workers are fighting for are healthcare costs. If maybe our government took care of such a thing, it would alliviate such issues.
And of course, as long as the dollar is weak, and we have an unfair trade imblanace, and Japans manipulation of the Yen, you have 3 whammies working against the American Manufacturers.
Ford has hired some of the best designers/stylists, etc. The Fusion was just rated in higher reliability than even a Camry with equal depreciation levels to that of the Accord and Camry with better safety crash score standards. Of course we never hear that because perception is the opposite. Right now it's "trendy" to be anti-American.

Ford has the same problem GM had a few years back. You have to make a car that the public wants. The Japanese are just better at predicting what we are going to buy, and have made serious inroads into the American market. Ford needs to get off the dime and design some fuel efficient cars that appeal to the mainstream instead of the ugly ducklings they have produced in the past five years. The Focus is made in Brazil, the Escape is a Japanese design by Mazda, and the Edge is built on a Mazda platform. IF they would learn how to market these qualities, Americans would line up behind the Blue Oval. All this is on Fords website. All I know is where im at there are tons of mustangs and explorers, I own a 98 Explorer and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. I like all of the big 3... but IMO Ford makes very good vehicles.
