Did you flush the system? The passages in the block, head and/or radiator themselves could be blocked, or it could simply be a faulty temp sensor. If it is running really hot i suggest you run a good quality coolant flush through her and see if that doesn't get some of the crap out of the passages. Is your fan working? did you burp the water system after installing the Thermostat? they are notorious for not clearing the air out of them with a cold engine pull out the plug at the thermostat and pull radiator cap off pour water into the plug till there is water coming out of the radiator then pug it and keep pouring water till the plug has nothing but water coming out then seal it up and try again. if that does not work then take the radiator cap off go to a pats house and have the cap pressure tested if it don't hold pressure replace it. if it's automatic check the tyranny fluid if it's brown and burnt and smells like onions it could be a slipping transmission causing it to get hot. and a hose could be separated inside not allowing water to flow when it gets hot the only way to know for sure is to replace the hose.98 Corolla-wouldn't start-replaced fuel pump-have gas to rail and firing fine-but won't start.?
First of all, what are you working on?And my "guess" at this time would be air-locked cooling system. If you don't bleed all the air out the vehicle will over heat immediately.
There's a good chance you need a new Radiator. And if you change that piece, then it's also a good idea to change the expansion tank as well as the upper & lower hoses connected to the radiator.
