Is a crank shaft pulley the same as a harmonic balance for a 1994 Pontiac sun bird?

this pulley turns the steering column and alternater and the parts place said that this pulley is the harmonic balance before I buy the part I just would like to know if they are one in the same thing

The pulley is bolted to the harmonic balancer. If you need to replace the front crankshaft seal and or the harmonic balancer, you'll need a harmonic balancer puller available at most auto parts stores. If you try to remove the harmonic balancer with an ordinary gear puller, you'll damage it and it will have to be replaced. Again in installing the harmonic balancer a tool is required to install it. Driving it on with a hammer will damage it. I get a longer bolt like the one holding the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft and it it to push the balancer in far enough for the original bolt to push it into place.

I dont personally have a sunbird, but on most engine the harmonic balancer and the pulley are two seperate things. They pulley would have a groove for the belt or chain, and the balancer is a heavier round "plate". Usually the balancer is under the pulley, or the pulley is bolted to it.
