There is a small light at the end of my speedometer, but it has never turned on. i looked in the car's manuel and it didn't even show this light in any of the diagrams.

On the E36 models, there is what looks like a 'light' at the end of the speedometer range. What that is is actually a light sensor which is used to adjust the brightness of your gauges (Trip / Odometer, etc) during daytime driving.1993 nissan maxima door key pad lock thingy ahh help.?
I believe that is the light that turns on if someone tries to tamper with the millage on the car. Once it turns on you have to buy a new instrument cluster. Put in place so people could not role back millage. The car keeps track of millage using the light control module and double checks it with the instrument panel.
