I was just curious if anyone else had problems with their power windows. One day I put my window down, then went to put it back up, the motor was working but my window wasn't going up. Took it to get repaired (only 500 bucks!) The clips that hold window on track had broke...plastic? Anyways 2 months later it happened again, my mechanic guarantees his work so fixed it again free of charge. I kid you not, that same day my other window broke. Just curious does anyone else have these issues. BTW Car was in 1 fender bender, less than 5 miles than hour. Thanks

Well look at this and this is for replacement of the two things - regulator and window motor for your vehicle. Did you know most of the time for the motor you can just replace the plastic gear but in your case it is cheap enough to buy the whole thing.

Had a girl that had "her mechanic" fix her car and then her window shield wiper motor went out. He was goint to charge her like $200 to fix it. I presume he was a "mechanic" so I hot wired the motor which I showed her the motor did work. Then checked the fuses, all good. Then NOTICE a wire clip had been pulled apart. Clicked this back on and viola, the motor worked. I told her what her mechanic was doing to her. She said she had her suspicions as the wires looked like someone was messing with them. If I were you I would get another mechanic fast. These will give you good work, but charge you up the ying yang cuz they see SUCKER. hahaha
Suggestion - If you order the part yourself from Ebay and buy the Haynes Repair manual, you can do the other window yourself, as you are replacing parts only.

Here is the URL. The 1999 was not listed but this should be the same, as basic things like window replacement and motors are nearly the same for all cars. Just click the pic to get a larger pic view. Yup, when I saw that the motors are bolted on, and not welded like my explorer, I see you have it made. Either way, you would just need a drill to remove the spot welds on my explorer and then in the new kit, you just bolt the motor on where the spot weld holes are.

Also, if you do not feel up to the job, then go to some other SMALL shops and ask how much to put in the new regulator and motor in. BUT tell the mechanic, you would do it but that you got Arthritis in the hand and it kills you to handle tools. This way you give him the impression that you are not stupid. It is just so hard to find honest mechanics nowadays. Tell him you have the parts and what it would cost to replace it. Tell him that that parts are bolted on and not spot welded. Also tell him that you are checking prices too.

The price of you buying a cheap tool set, $10, the price of buying the regulator and motor on Ebay, $55, and the look on your mechanic's face when he finds out he missed his $500 job, cuz you did it for $65, priceless. lol

Happens all the time with Power windows. The plastic becomes brittle and will fail. He most likely only replaced the one that was broken the first time and left the 2nd one on. Then that one broke and he had to do it for free. Instead of replacing both at the same time. Not to mention he should have known the other window was about to cut lose as well. they always break in pairs. I think 500 is a little steep for a job that takes less then half and hour. Thats pulling the door apart replacing the clips and putting the whole thing together. I chage 75 a door here at my shop. The clips are about 15 bucks for like 10 of them. I don't even bother charging for the clips just the labor. we pull the door panels off, remove the old clips and install the new ones. Check for operation and reinstall the door panel. Pretty simple really. Not sure why he would charge 500 for the job. I would ask him about it..i've owned 2 grand ams, in the last 3.5 years. i've never had this problem, knock on wood.

ok your problem is gm part number 22689012 this glues to bottom of window and bolts to top of regulator, is somewhat common for glue to come undone, but when repairing if you dont use the right glue it will just come apart again. we use 3m 8641 channel bond, it is a 2 part epoxy and takes a special gun and nozzle to apply but it works, if you paid anywhere over 150-175 for repair you got taken unless it needed more than just the above repairHow do you change the side front blinker on a 1994 jeep wrangler?

I had the same thing happen to me with my 99 SE, but they replaced it with metal parts so that it wouldn't happen again, they did that at the Pontiac dealer though, so they knew what was going on with it. It is very common though.omg i have the same exact model as u do, mine is red and is a 2 door, but my windo on the one side is messed up like yours, the guy said i might need a regulator or the clps may be broken or something, i also have a blown head gasket it is gonna cost me atleast 1200 i am about to just get a haynes repair manual and call it a day!!
